Student Teaching in the Time of Coronavirus

An experience for every certified K-12 teacher in 黑料吃瓜网 is the student teaching semester. It鈥檚 the time when coursework ends and in-the-classroom, hands-on teaching begins. Their cooperating teacher gives assignments and mentors IUP鈥檚 students as they learn the ins and outs of managing a classroom. As the pandemic took hold of almost every aspect of life, many student teachers were left wondering if they would get to do a student-teaching experience as 黑料吃瓜网鈥檚 governor closed all public and private schools. For IUP鈥檚 118 student teachers spread across 35 school districts, requirements were eased and experiences continued in the virtual environment.

IUP Transitioning to All Online Course Delivery Starting March 23

IUP will suspend all face-to-face classroom instruction for the remainder of the semester and transition to offering all instruction online. Online courses scheduled to begin today, March 16, will resume as planned and will continue as scheduled. All remaining classes will transition to online delivery and should start on March 23.

IUP Showed Me Opportunities: Lamont Craven 鈥�11

Before he came to IUP, Lamont Craven 鈥�11 was unsure about what he wanted to do after he left IUP. But as a natural science major, he met some faculty members who helped show him what opportunities he would have by earning his bachelor鈥檚 degree. They also provided him a network of people who wanted to see him succeed, and after graduating, he landed a full-time job at the Carnegie Science Center, in Pittsburgh.

IUP Receives Funding from Wolf Administration for Opioid Prevention

On January 8, Governor Tom Wolf announced that the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs is awarding nearly $1 million in federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration grants, including $100,000 to IUP, to prevent and reduce the use of opioids by college students and to create naloxone training opportunities for post-secondary institutions.
